	Mark as Spam actionforanimals : 11/03/2009 10:49 PM hi. thanks so much for sharing your thoughts. glad to hear that you're a vegetarian and are so concerned about animals in so many different ways. i'm vegan because i don't think that animals should be exploited for any reason, so i do not think it's okay to drink animal milk, wear leather, or use produts that have been tested on animals. all of these things involve horrible torture and killing of animals, and there's no reason for any of them. if you don't want to drink milk (which is great -- and an amazing thing for you to do for animals), you should talk with your mom about trying some vegan "milks." there's soy, almond, rice, hemp, oat, and hazelnut milks that are great, and tend to come in plain, vanilla, and chocolate flavors. and teh best part is that they don't contain any animal products, and are amazingly yummy either by themselves or to use in ways that you use cow milk (on cereal, in recipes, etc.). you can look at our "tips for parents" journal for more info about alternatives to dairy products. i understand your point about how it can be difficult to takein a whole bunch of information at once and change every aspect of your lifestyle to be vegan at the same time, which is why many people become vegan gradually and it's always a learning process to pay attention to ingredients, which companies test on animals, etc. i became vegan gradually -- first i stopped eating milk and eggs, then i stopped eating any animal products, and then i started learning about not buying from companies that test on animals. if becomieng vegan gradually is what works best for someone, then that's great -- what i care about is that they are becoming vegan in a way that it will last for them and that they are increasingly becoming more vegan and more committed to the liestyle. hope this addresses what you wanted me to...feel free to ask anything else or to share more of your thoughts, and i hope that you work towards being vegan. it seems like you care enough about animals and that you're dedicated enough to learning about what you can do to help that you would make for a wonderful and caring vegan. please stay in touch.
